09/24: Takatori lab moves to Stanford University
Our lab will join the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University, effective January 2025. Interested PhD students are encouraged to get in touch! See "Join" page for details. We are looking for both experimentalists and theorists!

UCSB Chemical Engineering (our home during 2020 - 2024) is a wonderful department with an absolutely supportive environment for rigorous research, teaching, and scholarship, full of phenomenal PhD students and researchers.  Our many academic mentors and colleagues were instrumental in the successful launch of our research program. We deeply miss the fun science and early-lab experiences at Santa Barbara.


06/24: PhD graduations

Graduate students Starry Xu, Kevin Modica, and Daniel Arnold successfully defend their theses and graduate with a PhD, as the first members of the Takatori lab. They graduated in <5 years despite the challenges of setting up a new lab that started 2 days after the covid shutdown. Congratulations on all of their achievements!!!


05/24: Graduate awards
Graduate students Titus Quah and Daniel Arnold are selected to receive fellowships from the UCSB Grad Division. Titus received the Graduate Opportunity Fellowship and Daniel received the Bettly Elings Wells Dissertation Fellowship. Congratulations!

04/24: Undergraduate award
Anika Jena is selected as a Barry Goldwater scholar, a prestigious program designed to support outstanding students pursuing careers in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Congratulations! Check out her news article.

03/24: New researcher in the lab
Postdoctoral fellow Dae Yeon Kim join the lab!  Welcome!

03/24: Graduate award
Graduate student Sachit Nagella is selected as the Connie Frank fellow for summer 2024, a prestigious program designed to support students pursuing biomedical research. Congratulations!

12/23: Army grant
Our lab is awarded an Army grant.  Thank you to the Army scientists and engineers for supporting our work!

09/23: Fifth-year graduate presentations
Graduate students Starry Xu and Daniel Arnold sweep both of the Best Oral Presentation awards at the Graduate Student Symposium. All students did a wonderful job in explaining detailed, technical concepts to a broad scientific audience!

05/23: Graduate award
Graduate student Sachit Nagella is awarded the Graduate Opportunity Fellowship by UCSB, awarded to a student who makes valuable contributions to the diversity of the graduate population. Congratulations!

03/23: Graduate awards
Graduate student Daniel Arnold is selected as the Connie Frank fellow for summer 2023, a prestigious program designed to support students pursuing biomedical research. Daniel is also a CSP Teacher-Scholar Fellow this year. Congratulations!

01/23: New researchers in the lab
Graduate students Aakanksha Gubbala and Juyeon Ha (co-advised with Prof. Arnab Mukherjee) join the lab! 

10/22: Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering
Sho is named as a 2022 Packard Fellow!  Packard Fellows are "dared to think big, explore new frontiers, and follow uncharted paths that may lead to groundbreaking discoveries" ... hope we can live up to this! [Article by UCSB]

10/22: ACS PRF Doctoral New Investigator
Our lab is awarded an ACS grant.  Thank you to the reviewers for taking the time to review, and ACS for supporting our work!

05/22: Sabbatical visitors
We are excited to welcome Prof. Joonwoo Jeong and Prof. Eujin Um from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in South Korea to our lab as visiting professors until early 2023! 

12/21: NSF grant
Our lab receives an NSF grant.  Thank you to the reviewers for dedicating so much time to review the proposals!

12/21: New researchers in the lab!

"Active Contact Forces Drive Nonequilibrium Fluctuations in Membrane Vesicles" is published in PRL, in collaboration with Amaresh Sahu.

03/20: New researchers in the lab!
